Woody Austin was not happy. After he birdied three consecutive holes, Mother Nature spoke, and spoke with authority. After rain, lightning and thunder rolled across the course for almost 4 hours, 46 players had to call it quits and will try to finish up their rounds as well as finish the tournament in its entirety tomorrow.
At the time play was stopped, Austin, Nicholas Thompson, Peter Lonard and Briny Baird topped the scoreboard at -8. "We're going to keep the same tee times tomorrow," said Tim Petrovic, who was 5 under for the round with three holes to play. "There are some guys who are going to get a little bit of an advantage from it, but hopefully it won't be a situation where there's too much advantage." (AP)
Austin's concern was not something that was whiny-like in any way. At the beginning of the week, the course had played tougher, as the greens seemed very tough. But now that they have softened, scores have improved, and players will take advantage of it in the final round--it will certainly be a wild finish.
