Will Wagner continue Texas luck in Open?

johnsonwagner.jpg

Johnson Wagner was born in Amarillo, Texas. Six Texans have won the Shell Houston Open. So it's no surprise that after two rounds Wagner is leading the tournament, even though he noticeably cooled off after shooting a course record along with defending champion Adam Scott on the first day. Not that Wagner had a bad, bad day--he did shoot 69--but Scott wasn't as fortunate; he stumbled to a 76 (ouch) and has fallen out of contention.

For the second straight tournament, weather has played a part; an afternoon storm delayed play for an hour and 45 minutes. More rain came later and the round was suspended at 7:25 p.m. with 36 players still on the course.

Wagner has not won in 45 starts, but not only would this be huge in terms of him just getting that first W, it would also mean a date at the Masters next week. The 28-year old remained confident but still with that awww-shucks image, saying “I definitely know I’m going to be there some time, whether it’s next week or five years from now, I look forward to playing there in the tournament.”
