Victory at Sony puts Choi among best in the world

kjchoi10.jpg

KJ Choi was able to do it--lead wire to wire at the Sony Open, despite hard-charging Rory Sabbatini, who has also started off the 2008 season on fire. With the victory, Choi captured his seventh event of his PGA career, and has propelled himself to being the seventh-ranked player in the world.

Any pressure now? Not really. When discussed, Choi stated that he is always challenging himself and the proverbial "glass", even if half-full, is dumped out and started off again. That's a refreshing attitude to see on the Tour, and the fact that he has 13 events worldwide under his belt without a major, that he could be conceivably crowned the "best without a major" (Sergio Garcia has 16 events without a major win).

I love this guy--he brings exuberance and new life to a sport that has seemed to have been watered down with the same ole Tiger Woods and same ole Phil Mickelson and same ole Vijay Singh for what seems like eternity. While there have been those who have stepped up from time to time, none have been all that consistent (minus Ernie Els). Choi may be just that. (Don't forget about Sabbatini though).
