Valero Texas Open Shuffling the deck once again

The shuffling of the Valero Texas Open field continued Tuesday, with four new names added thanks to a scattering of withdrawals and one notable mistake by the Southern Texas PGA.

A day after Lonny Alexander was listed in the event field, the STPGA notified tournament organizers that the Onion Creek pro, as champion of this year's sectional tournament, actually had earned a spot in the 2008 Open. Last year's sectional titlist, Brad Lardon of Austin, will play at La Cantera this week.

Tuesday's withdrawals included Notah Begay III, Ben Crane and Tim Herron. Blaine McCallister, Spike McRoy and Phil Tataurangi are replacements.

Will this affect the viewership--not likely. PGA tour officials didn't anticipate much after the Presidents Cup brought so much in and was a blowout; without names, the Texas Open will be even more drab.
