Trahan storms to victory at Hope Classic

trahan.jpg

There was Justin Leonard, a seasoned veteran who had pulled out 11 victories. And then there was D.J. Trahan, a 27 year old pro that had won a single time on the tour. In an improbably turn of events, Trahan scorched the final round with a 65 and his putter lead the way to a three-shot victory over Leonard in the Bob Hope Classic.

When asked about Leonard, all Trahan really could speak to was that Leonard had obviously played and won many important events, and noting that he didn't know how many times he had won, but that it was certainly more than he had accomplished. While this awww-shucks attitude may be just that during interviews, his last round was anything but that; it resembled a well-rounded player who took advantage of all of his strengths and zoned in tight for the PGA Tour victory.

Next week marks the return of Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson to the pro tour. While the first few tournaments have certainly had their own special charm and mystique, the tour will certainly welcome its most popular players with open arms.
