Tour Edge Exotics EX-3 Review

We've covered golf balls and wedges. Now, we'll focus on a few high-end iron sets. First up: Tour Edge Exotics EX-3. At first, you may look at the price tag and go "really?"--but not in a good way. At 799.00 MSRP for steel and an extra hundred dollars for graphite, golfers who are in the mid and high handicaps looking at this set had better be serious about improving their games.

This three-piece head has a hollow construction like a wood. Its stainless-steel body anchors a thin (2.2 mm) titanium "cup-shaped" face insert to produce maximum, conforming rebound of 0.83 COR (the same COR limit set for woods a few years ago). A specialized insert on the back deadens vibrations. I really am of the opinion that this sort of shock absorber is a must for thin-faced, oversize irons--because without it, heads would shake like when you would hit a baseball with a bat and have it vibrate throughout your arms--usually not a lot of fun.

This is really a striking club looks-wise. It is obvious the creators put a lot of time into the design. I would be hesitant to say there's anything else out there that is better in the "visual" department. When I hit these in practice, these are literally explosive--and accurate. I tend to fade my irons a little bit, especially when I get tired, but through an entire bucket of balls, this held true, and I even gave it some tough lies, and it performed well. However, I would suggest finding a deal online for these rather than paying the full amount.
