He was a mere 15 feet from history--actually, he was a few inches when it came down to it (see picture). The last opportunity for Tiger Woods to eclipse history (again) was just a hair off when it lipped out, giving him a major-tying record 63 in the PGA Championship.
Tiger remarked that it "went diving" but "didn't want to go in". How simple a man of excellence can make such an intricate game seem.
After firing the seemingly amazing round, Woods leads the PGA by two strokes over Scott Verplank. And with that lead, it's important to note that Woods is 7-0 when leading after 36 in major championships. Right about now you should be smelling the fear from Verplank and the rest of the field, because it's literally palpable. After walking away last week with an 8-stroke victory at the Bridgestone, it once again appears that Woods is at the top of his game and will be continuing to add trophy after trophy.
John Daly asked a rhetorical question about Woods after shooting a roughshod 73. "How do you cool Tiger off?"
In the words of Dan Patrick, you can't stop him, you can only contain him. Hey, look at that, there's a rather large lady over in the corner warming up her vocal cords. How interesting.
