Stricker ends 6 year win drought at Barclays

After squandering four chances to win tournaments this year, Steve Stricker finally made one stick--although it wasn't easy by any means. Defeating second-place finisher KJ Choi by two strokes, Stricker ended six years and 146 straight tournaments with a win in the opening round of the FedEx playoffs at the Barclays.

Stricker shot sixteen under for the tournament, and was even quoted to his wife when he first teed off twelve years ago to "Take a picture, because we're not coming back". Good choice to come back, Steve!! With the win, Stricker took over first place in the playoffs with 9,000 pts and a cool 1.26 million. By finishing second, Choi is 2500 points behind Stricker, followed by Rory Sabbatini, who ended three strokes back from Stricker.

Stricker won the tournament in dramatic fashion, getting birdies on four of the last five holes. I've always liked Stricker because he is just one of those down-to-earth good guys of the tour. Very humble, very professional. Hats off to you, Steve, you deserve it. Hopefully you won't have to wait another six years for an additional title!
