Srixon WG-706 Wedge Review

Next up in wedge reviews is the Srixon WG-706. Srixon's latest scoring set is forged from soft 1020 carbon steel to boost impact feel. A larger groove volume, milled U-grooves and a roughed up face surface generate spin, so you have control even in dicey situations. Srixon shaved away bounce along the heel and trimmed the trailing edge, making it easier to lay open the clubface for flop shots.

Offered in a variety of lofts from 50 to 60 degrees, the WG-706 allows you to tailor your scoring system perfectly to your preferences. Still--make sure you hit the first 100 or so balls on the range to take the edge off the grooves before letting your own ball get in the way. :)

From tight lies, fairways and hard sand this wedge is excellent and because the heel bounce has been reduced it is really easy to lay open and play touch shots with spin. I tried the 56 degree version, but with a swing weight of D3 it was not really heavy enough to go through deep rough or soft sand effectively. Don’t get us wrong, this is a very good wedge, but make sure it is right for you and they type of courses you play on a regular basis. For many, it will just be too light...
