Rose smelling sweet at Augusta

It was kind of funny when I was looking at the picture gallery at golf.com. Here is the biggest tournament of the year, and we've got so many great players on the course, yet as I am paging through the pictures, all I get is Tiger Woods and more Tiger. Shot after shot, picture after picture, update of what he was doing when, for pete's sake, I was surprised I didn't see a shot of him on the toilet on Amen Corner. Now, I understand that I do talk about Tiger quite a bit, you are free to call me a hypocrite, but the point is that when he is on--fine--give him his due. But good lord, come on....

I didn't even see a picture of Ian Poulter, who hit an ace on the first day, until about 10 shots in. I stopped after that--and now I feel like it is time to talk about the real story of the day--Justin Rose. Reeling off six birdies in an eight hole span, he shrugged off being 2 over to start and ended the day at -4 under, tied with Trevor Immelman for the lead.

Woods looked hardly supernatural--it took even an eagle late to pull him to even for the day. Meanwhile, the other story of the day was for Fred Couples, who is bidding for a record 24th straight Masters cut. He really struggled to a 76, and that could very much be in jeopardy.
