No Love for Davis: Out for the year

Davis Love III, a two-time Players Championship winner, could miss the rest of the PGA Tour season after tearing ligaments in his left ankle last week during a casual round of golf at Sea Island Golf Club, near his residence in St. Simons Island, Ga.

In a freakish incident, Love stepped in a hole and tore ligaments on the outside of his left ankle, which according to his doctor, make a significant issue because it's what stabilizes his swing. Love expressed dissapointment that he couldn't be in the Fall series of the PGA, and he won't even be able to play for at least eight weeks after surgery.

Love was scheduled to play this week at the Viking Classic and Oct. 11-14 at the Tour's Las Vegas event. The only other tournaments he was scheduled to play in are in the Tour's offseason: the Target World Challenge and the Del Webb Father-Son Challenge.

Perhaps this was a blessing in disguise--Love had a terrible year, only making 1 top ten finish since February.
