Mickelson is BACK

Riv.jpg

Alright, that's a little bit dramatic, don't you think? But anyways--there has been a lot of speculation lately about whether Phil Mickelson or Vijay Singh holds the the "true" second ranking in the world. This is largely due in part that besides Tiger Woods, no one comes close to being the best in the world, so therefore the better battle is for number 2.

Now, however, after Mickelson's performance in the Northern Trust Open, where he won by 2 strokes, the arguments should subside--at least for a while. Phil started out the year very sloppily, coming back from a respiratory infection. At the FBR, he started out very well but just couldn't get it going in the last two rounds. But he went "all the way" at the NTO, with crisp drives and a wonderful short game.

Last year, when it was known as the Nissan Open, Mickelson finished second to Charles Howell III, but this year there was no chance that he was going to be second fiddle. Congrats, Phil--here's to you keeping the momentum going into the World Golf Championships--with the competition there (including Tiger), you'll need it.
