Mickelson comes out swinging at FBR

Phil Mickelson got slammed...and I mean slammed.

After he had not played in the first couple of tourneys at the beginning of 2008, he had said that he was going to play in the Buick. Then it was disclosed that he had been fighting a respiratory infection for a few months. At the Buick, he looked bloated, out of shape, and shot poorly. What was supposed to possibly be another Tiger Woods-Mickelson show down turned into a laughingstock of a tournament, where Woods basically was on his own level.

Fast forward to the present.

At the FBR in Scottsdale, AZ, Mickelson came out this week unfaded by the criticism and had a very respectable first round, finishing three strokes back from leader Charles Warren and Kevin Sutherland. No one ever doubted Mickelson's ability or work ethic, but I think with such a poor showing after such hype going into the Buick, being able to even bounce back as he has at the FBR has been phenomenal. Now, what he does for the rest of the tournament will really determine his momentum for the rest of the year.
