Maxfli Tour Fire Golf Ball Review

Maxfli has been quiet recently in the better-player market. That's about to change--as this ball is designed for mid to lower handicap golfers (aren't they all, it seems). At 30 bucks a dozen, it better be! According to company designers, the Tour Fire offers lower compression (75) for softer feel and a livelier mantle (the layer between core and cover), for faster ball speeds and for greater distance than competitors' balls. The Iothane cover offers spin and control on finesse shots.

John Daly was intimately involved in Tour Fire's development and has switched to playing the ball on the PGA Tour. Daly tested prototype after prototype as Maxfli's R&D team continually experimented with different combinations of materials, layering and dimple configurations. After two years, Tour Fire was born.

Personally it is the longest golf ball I've ever hit. Period. I've enjoyed trying all these different balls, 2-piece and 3-piece. Some were softer and some harder, but none longer. It flies 10-20 percent farther than I'm used to. I have now played a couple rounds with it, and on both occasions I have hit shots with what turned out to be too much club, that I'd never hit that far. If your game is lacking the big yardage, give it a shot.
