Masters Thoughts: Anyone to challenge Tiger?

zjohnsonmasters.jpg

The oddsmakers have it marked, almost begging you not to take it--Tiger Woods is a 1:1 odds on favorite to win it. Have you ever seen a bigger event that has a more certain winner? I mean, we are talking about the great striped one, the Tiger that scares with his drives, with his putts, with his coolness and calmness as he methodically wins tournament after tournament. So the question is--can anyone challenge him?

Zach Johnson
took home a surprising green jacket last year, but he won't repeat at Augusta. First of all, it's nearly impossible to do in such a large stage, and his game has not been consistent enough to warrant attention. Phil Mickelson is always a threat, but Lefty just hasn't impressed me this year, he just seems all over the place, and in an event where he would love to regain his form, it's just too much of a long shot to think he'll be able to string four great rounds together---perhaps at the end of the year, but now? No.

The pop pick to cause chaos in Tiger's plans is Vijay Singh, who while he hasn't been of Vijay-like quality for the last year, they credit his overall gameplay and ball striking ability to really put the screws to Woods. I can somewhat see where that would be an issues, but I really think you have to watch out for Geoff Ogilvy; he was the only winner of a tournament Tiger didn't win this year and he finished strongly last week at the Shell Houston Open. He's playing great and he's not (overly) intimidated by the legend that Tiger has already spun. He's my pick to click....
