Love's major streak in jeopardy

davislove3.jpg

Tiger Woods had a very impressive streak of consecutive wins. And while really no one overall was terribly surprised that he did what he did, here's another number for you to chew on: 70. That's the number of majors that Davis Love III has been in consecutively--but unfortunately that number is in dire straits, a week before the Masters.

It's not as if Love has played poorly--the man has been injured for almost a half year with a freak ankle injury that required surgery. But--rules are rules--and unless Love wins this week's Shell Houston Open, he won't qualify for the Masters next week. The last time something like this happened to them was in a similar scenario--1 week before the Masters in 1995--and he did win that tournament.

But--this is very different--Love is coming off a very large injury and, even though he played the Redstone Golf Club and he noted that the playing conditions suit him well, there's a very low likelihood that he will win, and that's a shame--Love is a heckuvaguy and it would be a shame if he wasn't at Augusta. But--rules are rules. Grrrrr.....
