Jang leading the Field(s)

jeongjang.jpg

Jeong Jang scorched a 68 in the second round of the LPGA Fields Open, taking a 1 stroke lead at the midway point of the tourney held in Kapolei, Hawaii. The irony is, although the 68 was impressive, her 64 in the opening round tied the course record.

She may have gotten close to that score again if it weren’t for the four bogeys she had on the tough course; still, sitting at 12 under, she has all the momentum to go wire to wire—but she has to stave off her fellow country(wo)man Song-Hee Kim, who shot—get this—a 64 to tie the course record that Jang did just a day earlier. Kim’s putter was on fire, sinking several long putts.

While most of the media was honing in on Michelle Wie, who had really done well in her opening round with a 69, she shot decent again in the second round with a 70, but with the kinds of scores that Jang and Kim have put up, she now is behind Jang by nine strokes. However, you have to hand it to her that she appears to be healthy and maybe on her way back towards the career everyone had anticipated.
