Greens at East Lake another FedEx Setback

"If you can't stand the heat, get off the green..." Should be the cliche for this week's tournament in Atlanta, the final leg of the FedEx Cup. Already reeling from several player defections and increasing scrutiny, it has now been reported that the greens are so bad at East Lake Golf Club that the PGA Tour has taken the unprecedented step of barring spectators from the course, canceling the Wednesday pro-am and not allowing players to hit shots to or practice on the greens. A summer heat wave caused the problem at the elite club.

Of course, golfers aren't happy. Robert Allenby was quoted as saying that they've had all year for the tournament, and to not be ready is "disgusting". While officials were looking happier after Tiger Woods vaulted into first place after the BMW win in Lemont, this brings yet another hot topic (pardon the pun) to the surface for FedEx.

Players were officially notified Sunday morning via a two-page note on their lockers. Tiger said he'd never heard of such a thing. Some wondered whether the tournament could have been moved. Ernie Els said the greens conditions were no surprise to the players. They had been hearing about the poor conditions. Tour player Adam Scott, Els said, had been to East Lake for a corporate outing last month and said the greens were in poor shape.

Yikes...I would hate to be around these guys this week.
