Great Scot! World Cup added to Montgomerie's Accomplishments

The feel-good team of Boo Weekley and Heath Slocum had been riding the wave of success through the first three rounds of the World Cup held in China. But, lo and behold, here came Scotland with Colin Montgomerie and Marc Warren. The momentum the Scots built up were just too much--in a playoff, Scotland defeated the USA to win the Cup.

The win for the country, the first in over 50 years, happened on the third sudden-death extra hole when Weekley missed a 15-footer for par. Montgomerie's tap in set off a large celebration for the team. This was largely due to the fact that the Chinese contingent faded quickly, and the Chinese fans then quickly took to the Scottish team.

Montgomerie, who has been one of the biggest rivals to US golf and also has been showered in the media with his ongoing verbal battle with Nick Faldo, who after the recent Seve Trophy, criticized Montgomerie as a team member. Montgomerie, who has been on five winning Ryder Cup sides and is anxious to play on another, was openly furious that Faldo saw fit to criticize him on such a score- and has been fighting back ever since.

This should help his case immensely--he played well once again and proved that he is among the world's elite.
