Golf Channel to go Doppler

analyze.gifOk, not really dopplerin the sense of looking at weather over Augusta. No--it's the same concept though--where the channel will now start using the same type of doppler 3-D technology to break down golf swings.

An article by CNET discusses thisnew technology created by Interactive Sports Games and notes that it will be ready to rock by the Mercedes Benz Championship in just a week. This is supposed to be used to show a golfer's tendencies, much rather than the experts discussing what exactly they are doing.

Is this a good thing for the sport? While it's nice to put some visualization to things that golfers do right and wrong, to the average joe golfer who is watching, knowing that someone is turning their shoulder to quickly and seeing the track of the golf swing may be a great novelty at first, but I can see where this can tend to be annoying--and takes away from the natural tradition of the game. I think it's a great thing for those who want themselves to be analyzed for improvement, but for the viewer, it's not all that and a bag of chips.
