Ernie Els talks about his personal life

Ernie Els talked to the Daily News of South Africa about things other than--gasp!--Golf. In this down-to-earth interview, Els discusses things like his vineyard, his family, his love for soccer, and also his passion for creating golf courses.

I've always liked Els, one of those bunch of guys who has been a mainstay on tour and is consistent--almost to a fault. He's not flashy, not someone who is going to make some type of pronounced issue in the press, and his golf game basically speaks for itself. In the discussion near the latter of the article, where he notes that designing courses has never gotten in the way of his professional golf career, I would be willing to bet that some experts would disagree, that it's really been something that has kept him from possibly challenging Tiger's stranglehold on number 1 in the world, and that time on the practice range would suit him better.

However, after reading this article, you get a feeling that the guy is just an average guy who cares about family, sports, and just going out and playing good golf. He's ranked number 4 in the world, am I anyone to disagree? Heck, I envy his balance of life and work. Hats off to you, Mr. Els!
