Cleveland CG14 Wedge Review

Cleveland has always been one of those niche equipment makers that has been within the wedge market for years. It's been one of those things that while some people will pay a little more for Cleveland wedges, they tend to get a bit better performance as well (who woulda thunk it??)

This stainless steel wedge is a replacement for the CG11, and features a viscoelastic "Gelback" insert behind the hitting area to soften feel. Large "zip grooves" channel more debris than typical grooves to maximize spin. There's also more offset than in CG11 or CG12, based on feedback from Tour players. This puts your hands ahead of the ball, so you drive it lower. A wider, forgiving sole helps out of sand and reduces digging on touch shots. Basically, this club provides a great all-around close game for those at the mid-to-high level of performance.

The Cleveland CG14 is a very sharp looking wedge. In the past, even recent past, I have felt the Cleveland wedges were good but not great--but that was because it was more than likely The CG14 is a little less round in the overall shape, looking more like other ‘modern’ wedges. Actually a great deal for 109.00.

    I got the BlackPearl CG14 Set (52, 56 and 60 deg).
They sure are fine wedges, but Cleveland needs to sell gelback insert replacements as two out of three have fallen after 3rd use !!
