Choi fires 65, leads NTO

choikj.jpg

KJ Choi, you would think, would try to avoid the Palisades, CA, Riviera course. He's never played consistently well. And when you combine that with the fact that the first round was a very windy day on the course, the fact that he shot a bogey-free 65 to lead the Northern Trust Open at the start is pretty...well, amazing.

Choi obviously has the tools to win or play well anywhere, but the Riv has given him fits. At the time of this writing, Choi still is holding a 2 shot lead after Kevin Na started out the day +2 through 4 holes. Chad Campbell and Vaughn Taylor are tied for second, but if Choi is playing this well with these conditions--what's going to happen now that things have settled a bit?

If Choi can continue to lead the tourney, he will be the first multi-winner on the PGA this year. It's too early to bank on that, but from the way he's started 2008, this guy is definitely the one to watch (of course, besides Mr. Woods.)
