Canadian Tour regular Williamson grabs lead in Aussie Open

Lee Williamson had been on the Canadian Tour from 2003-2006 and had marginal success. But at the opening round of the Australian Open, he came out firing on all cylinders, posting an impressive 65 and finishing strong, nabbing two birds on 2 of the last 3 holes.

Williamson, an American, was quoted as "I scored better than I played", but with a two shot lead over Robert Allenby, I don't think many would agree with him overall, but his scorecard did resemble something of a roller coaster--getting six birdies on the front but yet a triple bogey to card a 33 at the turnAllenby, and Aussie himself, was tied with two other countrymen, Andrew Bonhomme and Kim Felton.

As Williamson showered in the attention, Bonhomme had to endure an embarrassing round--his caddie's bib had his name misspelled. Nice. Well, what can you expect for a guy who really has not earned too much on the Australian pro-am? Well, not in his own country, for pete's sakes! I would guess tournament officials are eating a little crow right now, or would that be dingo? :)
