However, going into the day's final round, Canadian Mike Weir is trying to stave off the youngster, clinging to a 1 shot lead. The leader board is pretty thick, with only five shots separating 12 players. So for this to be a final round which actually means something is quite the understatement.
Weir had to make birdie on the last hole to take the lead at the end of the third round and seems to have the most momentum going into the last day. He rode the large contingent of Canadian fans that followed him and fellow countryman Stephen Ames of Calgary throughout the day, going bogey-free and finishing with a strong 68. Jim Furyk shot the low round of the tourney with 66, and several players shot 67.
With the scores starting to heat up, it could be anyone's tournament. One birdie can change everything. One mistake can send someone tumbling down the leaderboard. I think with Weir's experience and this being the first time in a long time he's got to play Kapalua, he should eek it out, unless....naah, won't happen.
