Can Watney defend at Zurich?

march26_watney_299x199.jpg

Nick Watney has one PGA win under his belt--and it just so happens to be the tournament that is being played this week in Avondale, Louisiana in the Zurich Classic. He's hoping that he can repeat on the 7500 yard course that has super-wide fairways and basically allows for players to grip it and rip it. Expect for the scores to be very high in terms of under par. However--even with Watney set to go again, this tournament has become a first-win paradise, where the last three years have been won by first-timers.

Watney found that after he won last year, he was going out every time trying so hard to win every tournament he was in, and it really affected his play. He said that this offseason he took a step back and tried to refocus on playing just good golf. He should be up there, but will he be able to defend?

WIth this kind of course, I would say you have to watch out for Bubba Watson, the big hitter on tour. With firm greens, Watson could take advantage of some of the 5000-square foot greens. Steve Stricker also is playing amazing golf lately, and is actually the highest world-ranked player of the field. Last week, Stricker came on strong to finish sixth and is poised to finish high in this tournament.

Either way, it will be a viewers paradise as well, as the scores should explode. Check it out.
