Baddeley can't put Tiger away in WGC

The World Golf Championship Match Play tournament has had its share of excitement; many matches have not only been tight, but many have had to go into extra innings, so to speak. Kudos to the bracket makers, it certainly has been a great tournament so far.

And for Tiger Woods, he's getting all he can handle. In match play, he's 28-6 in his career. In many of those matches, it has been common to see players literally wilt in Woods' presence. But this tournament has actually brought out the best in the players he's faced: he was three down to J.B. Holmes late in the match, only to storm back and win; in his match against Aaron Baddeley, it took him 12 birdies and 20 holes to win one up; and surprisingly, it was after he was 2 up after 2. Normally that would mean the opposing player would be heading home early; in this case, it got Baddeley going and his putting stroke was golden.

Baddeley was 1 up with three to go, but Woods turned it on, and his birdie on the 20th hole sealed the deal. As soon as the birdie plopped into the bottom of the cup, Woods didn't gloat, he didn't celebrate. He merely took off his hat, walked over to Baddeley, and shook his hand--he knew he had been given all he could handle. If there's one thing that's happening in golf, it seems that while Woods is possibly still peaking, players are not awed any more by him--they are inspired to beat him. While that hasn't exactly been successful, it certainly has made for some excellent competition.
